Most puzzle books are designed around the puzzle.
We wanted to begin somewhere else.
With the page.
With the feeling of opening a book and finding enough room to stay there for a while.
The Quiet Garden began with a simple idea: a word-search book does not need to feel crowded, disposable or hurried.
A puzzle can have rhythm.
A page can breathe.
The space around the grid can matter almost as much as the letters inside it.
That changed many of the decisions that followed.
We chose larger pages and generous margins.
We separated the puzzles into small thematic sections rather than treating the book as one long sequence.
Between them, we left moments where almost nothing happens.
No score.
No timer.
No instruction to move faster.
Just another page.
The subjects followed naturally: gardens, plants, seasons and the small details that tend to disappear when we are not paying attention.
It is still a puzzle book.
It should still be satisfying to find the last word hidden diagonally in a grid.
But we wanted the experience around that moment to feel different.
Something closer to sitting with a newspaper on a quiet morning than completing a task on a screen.
That idea now sits at the centre of TOM PAPER CO.
We are interested in books people do not simply finish.
Books they leave on a table.
Books they pick up again.
Books that become part of a room for a while.
The Quiet Garden was our first attempt at making one.
